It comes as a shock to many people when their partner decides to leave them. However, there are often signs before the break-up that may indicate the relationship is coming to an end.Though men and women may pick up on these hidden signals, they tend to ignore the warnings because they don’t want to face the truth.
The following six warning signs are indicators that your partner could be leaving you soon.
1. Need for more space
In every relationship, each person needs time for their own interests and friends. But if your partner suddenly wants more space than before, alarm bells should start ringing. Talk to them about what’s on their mind. A sudden change in behavior may not mean that they’ve lost interest in you — your partner may be having problems at work or similar issues.
2. Keeping important things secret
Did you only hear about your partner being promoted through other people? Did you only find out about their financial problem by seeing warning letters in the mail? Has your partner been keeping a family member’s illness quiet? These are not good signs! If your partner is keeping you in the dark about important things in their life, it may be a sign that their interest in you is fading.
3. Avoiding intimate time
First of all, it’s common for couples to have less sex over the course of time. But if you’re no longer having sex or doing it very infrequently, there may be cause for concern. Talk to your partner about the reasons why there’s no longer a spark in the bedroom and try to find solutions both parties are happy with. According to relationship therapist Robert Eckert, “It’s important for both people to find each other sexually attractive to keep the relationship going. That’s why you need to be open and find out whether other issues in the relationship have led to your sex life suffering.”
4. Frequently canceling dates
“Babe, we can’t meet up tonight. I have too much to do at work.” Does your partner always have a reason for not meeting up? If you’re honest with yourself, you’ll realize that these are simply lazy excuses. This is especially the case when they don’t suggest a different time to meet. When this happens more often than not, it could be a sign of a lack of interest in you.
5. Constantly arguing
It’s normal for couples to argue every now and then. However, it becomes a problem when arguments are part of the daily routine, as constant bickering can have leave both people feeling weary in the relationship. If your partner tries to pick fights for no reason, it’s often a sign that things are coming to an end.
6. Spending more time with other potential partners
Do you keep on hearing how attractive so-and-so is? Does your partner flirt with other people before your very eyes? Have you caught your partner talking about intimate things with another person? If so, there could be a problem. When your partner is acting like this, you should make it clear to them that you shouldn’t be taken for granted. If you discuss these issues, your partner may see what they could be missing out on.
Though one or two of these points may be relevant to your relationship, it doesn’t necessarily mean that a break-up is around the corner. Talk to your partner about your relationship, as that’s the only way to find out whether they’re happy with you. If that’s not the case, it may be worth seeing a relationship therapist to work through these problems.
